Wee One’s Hair Bow Hack- How to Make Little One’s Bows Non-slip

By  |

I’m trying to get back into blogging and these days my life revolves around being a mommy. I love this job, it’s the most important and best job you’ll ever have. Since having my daughter last July, I’ve learned a few tricks in the baby hair department and thought I’d share.

I bought my daughter a crazy amount of hair bows before she was born thanks to Amazon! What I learned the hard way was that unless your baby is blessed with a TON of hair, those cheap bows are not going to stay in. Super frustrating as you can buy 20 bows for around $10 versus one boutique brand bow for $10 or more.

I gave in, out of frustration, and bought a Wee Ones brand bow after I kept hearing they’re THE best. Some are $11+ per bow. So here’s the deal, they look basically identical to my Amazon (China) bows BUT they have much smaller hair clips on the back and taking it a step further, their MAGIC SECRET is the small strip of silicone attached to the inside of the hair clip. It’s genius really. My child can shake her head and they will not budge!

So I did some internet research with a mission to duplicate this secret weapon at home, and I figured it out! I’m sharing my secret along with links for you below. Trust me, it took some serious digging to find the right items but the process of revamping cheap hair bows into fabulous hair bows is easy breezy!

What you’ll need:

-hair bows to be revamped

Single prong curl clips

-hot glue gun

Silly Grip Silicone No Slip Grip

Here are a few pics of the amazing Wee Ones hair bows and a close up of their secret weapon, the silicone grip strip branded with their name.

Here’s a pic of the curling clip to show just how similar in size and shape they are to the Wee Ones clips.

Here are a few of the bows I’m working to revamp. It literally takes 30-60 seconds per bow. SO EASY!

See how gigantic some of those clips are?! They’re for a 10+ year old. My daughter is thirteen months.

Ok, step one is removing the original clip that was hot glued on by gently pulling it off.

Step 2: add a small strip of replacement hot glue.

Step 3: attach the new curling clip to the ribbon with the glue.

Tip: lift the top half of the clip to avoid it gluing shut. If it does glue shut just gently pry it apart.

Step 4: Attach the silicone strip to the clip and press it down.

Ta-da!! You’re all done! How easy was that?! You will be so happy with how well these hold in your baby’s hair with no pulling.

Here’s a comparison of the $11 Wee Ones bow versus my revamped cheap bows.

Here’s a little math too. We have 40 of these bows for a total of $20. Each of the Wee Ones costs roughly $10 (not on sale and maybe $7 depending on size or $11+). At $10 with no tax, that’s $400 for the same amount of bows. Now, I spent $4 on 40 curling clips and $5 on silicone grips (100 actually so I have extra). So in total a revamping for under $10.

You’re welcome! 😉
